Question: If you reeled in a rockfish with either bulging eyes or a protruding stomach, how would you place it back into the water to ensure it has the best chance of surviving?
Capt. John King, Afishinados:
“There are various fish descending devices on the market. These are weighted clips with a release mechanism. To use, you clip the fish and let the weight bring the fish back to depth, then you pull the release mechanism; works great for small fish. For bigger fish like black sea bass we have a different trick.”
John King helms Catallac, which is part of the Afishinados fleet on Catalina Island.
