White seabass also really took off this week at Catalina, San Clemente Island and nearshore waters from San Diego to Los Angeles. One-fish limits have been the rule many places this week and the fish are running up to nearly 50 pounds. A white seabass tournament this past weekend was won with a 48.8-pounder at Catalina, but the bite has improved since then. Mardiosa out of Pierpoint Landing was out with six anglers and three crew, and they came back with nine seabass to 35 pounds, 16 calicos, five sheephead and three sargo, on live squid. Options, also out of Pierpoint, was out with five anglers, and they had five seabass to 45 pounds, one yellowtail, one halibut and good calico catch-and-release fishing.
