SAN DIEGO – The Young Anglers Fishing Tournament on Shelter Island invited youths between the ages of 6 and 15 years of age to compete in the annual event schedule for Saturday, Aug. 9.
Sponsored by the Port of San Diego, the San Diego Sportfishing Council and the International Game Fish Association, the annual tournament will celebrate its 12th consecutive year.
Each year, more than 200 youngsters compete for valuable prizes and gifts all donated by many industry partners and local businesses. The tournament held on the Shelter Island Pier provides a free lunch to all participants and entry to the tournament is free.
For many of the tournament’s participates, the Young Anglers Tournament is their first fishing experience. Participant will be awarded with a goody bag filled with promotional items such as key chains, note pads, pens, caps and t-shirts.
Prizes will also be awarded to the winners in each of 10 age categories (6-15) as well as smaller prizes distributed among the participants.
