While there isn’t quite the volume of yellowtail anglers were seeing last week at Los Coronados islands off San Diego, the bite was still pretty good, even over the busy holiday weekend. While skippers are reporting that up to half of the hooked yellows — which have all been from 15 to 35 pounds — are being lost, most boats are still returning with up to 1 fish per angler. Mission Belle out of Point Loma Sportfishing was out May29 with 24 anglers, and they landed 28 yellowtail, six barracuda and two calicos. San Diego out of Seaforth Sportfishing had 46 anglers on a three-quarter day trip May 29, and they landed 21 yellowtail, 20 barracuda and 17 rockfish. The better tides with the coming full moon and better conditions (less wind) should just make this bite get better through this coming weekend.
