Ocean Fishing, Lake Skinner, Lake Perris
1. The ocean fishing is just too good not to be in the top picks, and while all three picks could be different ocean bites, the hot and most consistent action in recent days has been the kelp-paddy yellowtail and dorado fishing for the overnight to three-day boats fishing south of San Diego in Mexican waters. A lot of the yellowtail have been honest 30- to 40-pounders. Check with 976-Tuna.com for an update on this action and information on San Diego landings running these trips.
2. The striper bite at Lake Skinner stays in the top picks with good fishing continuing at the inlet and buoy line bites most mornings until 9 a.m. or so. While most of the fish are two to four pounds, stripers to 10 pounds have been caught in the past couple of weeks. Top action on swimbaits, but cut baits have also been working. For an update on the bite check with the marina at 951-926-8515 or Last Chance Bait and Tackle in Hemet at 951-658-7410.
3. The bluegill bite at Lake Perris is kind of a sleeper pick, but the action has been very good, and there has been a fair number of fish from one to two pounds in this bite. Top areas have been Sail Cove, near the dam and off the marina docks. Most of the fish are showing on crickets, wax worms, red worms or micro jigs tipped with these baits in deeper water. For an update on this action check with the marina at 951-657-2179.
