The half- and three-quarter-day boats from San Diego into Orange County and Los Angeles area waters have shifted from rockfish to bass, sculpin and halibut. Spitfire out of Marina del Rey was out Jan. 1 with 24 anglers who landed limits (five fish) of sculpin and 85 sand bass. Malahini, out of H&M Landing, fished San Diego Bay with 17 anglers, and they landed eight halibut, 36 sand bass, 10 tom cod and five sculpin. There also continue to be a few white seabass showing off the La Jolla kelp, but that action is mostly for private boaters.
