The volume of market squid all along the coast and at the offshore islands is just phenomenal. The commercial season on squid is already over, with the quota already filled. The candy bait is easily available for the sport fleet, and the action has been surprisingly good for mixed-bag fishing along the coast. While rockfish are the mainstay, the variety is surprising. Seawatch out of Seaforth Sportfishing was out in poor conditions on a half-day trip Dec. 2, with 20 anglers. They caught two white seabass, two halibut, one sand bass, three sheephead, one whitefish, 12 rockfish, two lings and eight red snapper. On the three-quarter-day San Diego, seven anglers had 20 calico bass, 12 rockfish and two sand bass Dec. 2.
