The long-range fishing scene is simply as good as it gets. Even with dismal weather much of the past week for the long-range boats off the cape of Baja California, the fishing has still been excellent. On Dec. 3, a yellowfin tuna taping 400 pounds was caught by John Petruescu aboard Excel out of Fisherman’s Landing, and the anglers on board had 14 fish weighing up to 155 pounds in rough conditions Dec. 4. In good weather, these trips have been averaging from 40 to 80 yellowfin per day — and the wahoo action is also very good.
