The fishing at the giant yellowfin tuna grounds off the tip of Baja California has been exceptional this week for the long-range San Diego boats in this region. Royal Polaris arrived on the grounds noon March 17 and had limits of quality yellowfin averaging 80 to 120 pounds by late afternoon. The biggest yellowfin was 270 pounds. The anglers on board also had limits of wahoo averaging 45 to 60 pounds. On March 18, the top fish was 250 pounds. On March 19, the bite was even better, with average fish running from 150 to 170 pounds. The top fish March 19 was a 315-pounder landed by Jack Preston.
