While San Clemente Island was mostly closed by the Navy this past week, there continues to be a very good volume of white seabass and yellowtail here. Few anglers are running this far since it reopened July 16, because the bite at Catalina has been so good. There are still good number of white seabass to 30 pounds all around the island — and yellowtail are showing in decent numbers on the front side, with fish to 30 pounds. Also, there is excellent calico bass action at both places.
