There has been good to excellent rockfish action all along the coast during the warm weather this past week. From San Diego up into the Channel Islands, limits have been the rule for anglers on three-quarter-day or full-day trips — and the bite has included a lot of quality reds, some lings and limits on bocaccio (which is just two). Even the half-day anglers are seeing scores of five to seven fish on better days, and sometimes more. For example, Tradition out of Redondo Sportfishing was on a half-day run April 10 with just 14 anglers, and they had 140 rockfish (limits) and two lings. Victory out of Pierpoint Landing was out with 26 anglers April 9, and they landed 147 rockfish, 52 bocaccio (limits), 58 sculpin and a sheephead. New Seaforth, out of Seaforth Sportfishing, was on an afternoon half-day April 10 with 28 anglers and returned with 70 rockfish, 17 red snapper, two sheephead and a whitefish.
