FISHING UPDATE: Trout action is fair to good all over the county. Top bets this week are again Wohlford, Dixon, Poway and Cuyamaca. The bass action has been fair at most waters. San Vicente remains probably the best bet for bass with most of the fish showing in deep water on shiners, plastics, and jigs, but the cool weather has even slowed this bite down. El Capitan is also about as good. The panfish bites are really slowing down, but anglers should still keep an eye on the Lower Otay crappie bite. While there were no counts available this week, that bite had been very hot with over 500 fish reported each of the previous two weeks.
FISH COUNTS: At El Capitan, there were 23 anglers who reported 41 bass. At Miramar, there were 14 anglers checked this past week and landed 39 bass to 4.05 pounds. At Murray, there were 20 anglers who reported just two bass. No other counts reported.
NOTEABLE CATCHES: At Wohlford, top trout of the opening week of trout season was a 14.5-pound rainbow landed by Daniel Fernandez, Downey, on a Smoking Jigz. Bruce Smith, Clairmont, landed an 11.7-pound rainbow fly-fishing with a white leech pattern. At Murray, Kim Nguyen, South Bay, had bass at 9.3 and 6.7 pounds on swim baits, while Jason Stewart, San Diego, landed eight bluegill to 1.5 pounds on wax worms.
