San Diego Area Lakes, Nov. 17 Report

NEWS/STOCKING UPDATES: Trout plants begin this month at most waters in the region. Lake Cuyamaca received DFW and Jess Ranch trout last week and more Jess Ranch trout are slated for next week. Poway will also begin its trout season in “late November.” Other lakes will be announcing schedules soon. Hodges, Sutherland, and Barrett are closed until next year.

FISHING UPDATE: Overall, the bass action has been fair at most waters. San Vicente remains probably the best bet for bass with most of the fish showing from 25 to 35 feet of water on shiners, plastics, and jigs. Panfish bites are also still fair with some flurries of very good action, but they are starting to slow as nights and waters cool. While getting light pressure, the bluegill are best at Lower Otay, San Vicente, and Murray. Jennings and Murray have continued to have a fair catfish bites. Jennings is best on cut baits or nightcrawlers in Half Moon and Sentry coves, while Murray is best in the afternoons off the fishing pier. The trout bite at Cuyamaca is improving with the cooler weather.
