While the offshore counts were down much of the past week and through the weekend, mostly thanks to some wind and poor tides, anglers on the 1.5-day and two-day boats were still finding a good pick on yellowtail on floating kelp, along with a few dorado and some bluefin tuna. A typical score was posted by Ocean Odyssey out of H&M Landing, where the 23 anglers on board had 55 bluefin, 13 yellowtail and a dorado July 23. Condor out of Fisherman’s Landing, with 20 anglers on a 1.5-day trip, had 110 yellowtail, six dorado and five bluefin July 24. Overall, the bite seemed to be getting better this week as we move into the Aug. 1 full moon.
