While water conditions worsened this past week, the local islands — Santa Catalina Island and San Clemente Island, especially — seem to be poised to break wide-open as we head into spring. There is still a huge volume of squid at both locations, and skippers are still seeing both white seabass and yellowtail in pretty good numbers. When the water temps climb back up and conditions improve, the first hot bite of spring is poised to kick into gear.
