LAKE ISABELLA: The catfish are fair to good with most of the action in the South Fork arm of the lake. Frozen shad, clams, dip baits, and other cut baits have been the best. Fish to six pounds or better in this action. The trout action was has stayed fair to good. The best bite has been on inflated nightcrawlers, PowerBait, and small jigs, at the main dam, auxiliary dam, and French Gulch. DFW trout plants two and four weeks ago. A rare crappie or two continue to show up in the South Fork, but this bite is very tough. Bass are slow. The lake level is around 62 percent of full pool. KERN RIVER: The trout plants slated again for this week in sections 4, 5, and 6. They were planted in all sections last week. The bite has been slow with high flows both above and below the lake. The lower Kern is still nearly unfishable through the canyon with Isabella release flows at 5,000 cfs. The upper river flows were up to from 4,200 cfs down to 3,700 at Kernville on Wednesday. AQUEDUCT NEAR TAFT: Heat has kept fishing pressure down in recent days, but the striper bite remains good, with lots of small stripers under the keeper size. More moss each week making fishing more difficult. The bite has been sardines, blood and lug worms, anchovies, Gitzits, and jigs, but the hardbait bite is still off. Fair on catfish this past week on both mackerel and sardines. Anthony Ozuma, Bakersfield, landed a 5-8 catfish on sardines. No largemouth reports. MILL CREEK PARK AND CANAL: A few catfish reported on nightcrawlers.
RIVER WALK PARK LAKE: Carp have been pretty good on Powder and Wussy baits. Also a fair to good bluegill bite on wax worms. A few bass. Information: Bob’s Bait at 661-833-8657.
HART PARK LAKE: The carp bite has been fair to good on dough baits, especially the locally-made Wussy’s Poor Man’s Bait and Powder Bait. Also a pretty good bluegill bite on meal worms, wax worms, and crickets. A few bass showing on plastics and reaction baits. Other species slow.
TRUXTUN LAKE: The carp bite is good on dough baits and fair to good bass action on nightcrawlers, plastics, or live minnows. The bluegill are fair to good on wax worms. Few other reports.
MING LAKE: The carp bite has been good on dough and paste baits, especially Powder Bait and Wussy’s. The bass bite has been fair. Plastics, Senkos, and live minnows have been the best baits. The bluegill bite is also fair to good on wax worms and meal worms. A few crappie reported.
BRITE LAKE: The bite on small crappie started to take off this past week on small jigs, but there are no reports of other bites.
BUENA VISTA LAKES: The bluegill bite has been good with a lot of nice stringers showing on wax worms or other small baits. The catfish bite is also fair to good with most fish showing on frozen shad. Still a very few crappie are showing for diligent anglers fishing small live minnows or jigs. The largemouth bass bite is the fair on nightcrawlers, plastics, and Senkos. WOOLLOMES LAKE: No reports.

KAWEAH LAKE: The bass and crappie bites are very good. The crappie are running up to two pounds and many anglers are posting limits of fish on small jigs and small minnows. The bass are showing on plastics and topwater or reaction baits early in the day. Most are two- to three-pounders, but some bigger fish. Lake level is over 90 percent of capacity this week.
