LAKE ISABELLA: The catfish bite has been the best bet this past week with pretty good action on fish to six pounds on clams, Sonny’s Dipo Bait, and cut baits. Most everything else has slowed down. Only a few crappie showing, and the bass are just fair. A few trout continue to show in deeper water at the auxiliary dam. For carp anglers, this bite has been less consistent, but still pretty good on dough baits with fish to eight pounds. KERN RIVER: Trout plants throughout the upper river three weeks ago (sections 4, 5, and 6) and a plant in section 4 this week have kept this action pretty decent and flows have dropped way down. The best bite has been on salmon eggs, crickets, and Roostertails. Fly-fisherman are having good luck on wild fish. The lower river flows jumped, making the river almost unfishable. AQUEDUCT NEAR TAFT: The striper bite has been fair, but mostly on smaller, undersize fish, and mostly early and late in the day. Floating vegetation and moss is becoming a problem. The Grapevine to 166 stretch continues to fish pretty well, too. Sardines and blood worms have been the best baits, with very few fish on artificial lures. Catfish are improving with fair to good action on sardines, anchovies, and Wussy Bait. Very few largemouth bass. Anglers are reminded the limit on stripers is two fish greater than 18 inches, while the largemouth limit is five fish. BUENA VISTA LAKES: There is a fair bite on smaller catfish on shad and dip baits, but the action on carp and bluegill is better. The carp are showing on Powder Bait and Wussy Bait, while the bluegill are best on the usual array of small baits, with crickets and wax worms probably the best bets.
