High Desert Lakes, April 7 report

HESPERIA LAKE: Fair trout action. Most recent plant was last Thursday. Anglers should call to see if a plant is going in this week. Most trout are 2-pound class fish with bigger fish in each plant. Best trout reported this past week included a 7-8 landed by Milo Figueroa, Victorville on PowerBait at the Finger, while Curtis reeves, Hesperia, had a 7-pound on a Power Minnow. Catfish plants set to begin in mid-April. Kid’s Fishing Clinic set for this Saturday, April 9. Cost is $7.50 for kids 3 to 12 years old taught how to fish. JESS RANCH LAKES: The trout bite has been pretty good before 10 a.m., but tough after that. The best action has been on PowerBait (especially salmon peach, garlic, and rainbow), jigs, small trout lures, and inflated nightcrawlers. Most are 2 pounders. A few bass are showing. MOJAVE NARROWS: Winners of the Trout Derby this past Saturday are as follows: First place went to Daniel Fernadez, Downey, with an 8-10 rainbow on a Smokin’ Jig. John Thur, Spring Valley Lake, was second with an 8-3 rainbow. Jerry Melton, Palmdale, was third with a 5-9 trout, while Jorge Rivera, Hesperia, was fourth with a 5-4 rainbow. Joe Vicarao, Hesperia, was fith with a 4-15. County trout plants are weekly. Last county plants of season next week. No recent DFW plants. For lake information: 760-245-2226.
