Fish Report-Freshwater, Aug. 5

HESPERIA LAKE: Good catfish action with 1,000-pound plants last Thursday and this Thursday. The best action has been on shrimp, mackerel, the marshmallow-meal worm combo, or garlic nightcrawlers. Most of the fish are in the 2 to 3-pound range, but bigger fish are in each plant. Top catfish this past week was an eight-pounder landed by Nick Tompkins, Los Angeles, on chicken liver. Tommy Studer, Hesperia, had a six-pounder. Limits were posted by Art and Daren Smith, both Hesperia, along with Eddie Ayala, also Hesperia. JESS RANCH LAKES: Trout action was slow to fair with anglers using PowerBait (especially salmon peach, rainbow and orange), small trout jigs, trout lures, or nightcrawlers. Hot spots included the western and eastern shores of lake 3 as well as the western and northern shores of lake 2. Anglers are reporting fair to good bass action on Senkos with fish to five pounds. MOJAVE NARROWS: County catfish plants are alternating weeks this year through Sept. 3. The most recent plant was last week. DFW trout plant also went in last week. For lake information: 760-245-2226.
