High Desert Lakes, March 24 report

HESPERIA LAKE: Good trout action and a steady succession of quality rainbows continues to pour in. Best fish this week was an 11-pounder landed by Dione West, Rialto, on a nightcrawler-salmon egg combo. Sparky Kale, Hesperia, landed a 9-pounder, while John Knight, Rialto, had a 7 1/2-pounder. Steve Burridge, Hesperia, landed a seven-pound. Overall the trout action remains good with Mt. Lassen trout plants last Thursday and again this Thursday. Most trout are two-pound class fish with bigger fish in each plant. Catfish plants set to begin in mid-April. Kid’s Fishing Clinic set for April 9. Cost is $7.50 for kids 3 to 12 years old taught how to fish. Gear will be provided and the limit is two trout per entry. Information: 800-521-6332 or 760-244-5951.

JESS RANCH LAKES: The trout bite has been fair to good on PowerBait (especially salmon peach, garlic, and rainbow), jigs, small trout lures, and inflated nightcrawlers. Most are two pounders. The best bite has been before 10 a.m. Kevin Salgado, Hesperia, landed a 7-8 rainbow on a mini jig from Lake 3. A few bass are showing. Slow other species.
