Fish Report-Freshwater, May 6 ed

HESPERIA LAKE: Catfish season is in full swing with weekly plants on Thursday. The bite has been fair to good with quite a few limits reported. Most of the fish are from two to four pounds, and showing on mackerel, shrimp, or chicken liver. Top fish reported this past week was a 19-pounder landed by Kevin Scott, Hesperia. Julian Zomoro, Victorville, landed a 14.5-pound catfish, while Tim Johnson, Hesperia, had catfish at 13, 11.5, and 9.5 pounds. JESS RANCH LAKES: Trout action has been very good in both lakes over the past week on PowerBait (especially orange, garlic, and salmon peach), small trout jigs, and a wide array of small trout lures. Most of the rainbows are around two pounds with some to three pounds. Bass are post-spawn and fish to seven pounds showing in a fair bite on plastics and reaction baits. The catfish action is also improving with some nice fish landed. George Mantooth, Apple Valley, had a 14-pound cat on a nightcrawler from the east shoreline of Lake No. 2. MOJAVE NARROWS: Final county plant of the season was two weeks ago, and the most recent DFW plant was three weeks ago. Eugen Todd, Apple Valley, had a limit of five rainbows fishing jigs on Monday this week in Horseshoe Lake. His top fish was a five-pound rainbows and the whole stringer weighed in a 14-5.
