Fish Report-Freshwater, Sept. 9

HESPERIA LAKE: Good catfish action with 1,000-pound plants last Thursday and this Thursday. The best action has been on the marshmallow-meal worm combo, shrimp, and mackerel. Most of the fish are in the 2 to 5-pound range, but bigger fish are in each plant. Top catches this past week include a 10-pounder landed by Mario Given, Apple Valley, on a blood dough bait at the drain. James Tierheimer, Apple Valley, landed an 8-pounder on shrimp, while Willie Meyers, Ontario, had three cats that totaled 24 pounds total. Information: 800-521-6332 or 760-244-5951.

JESS RANCH LAKES: The trout bite improved last week when the weather was cooler at night, but has slowed again with the heat this week. The best action has continued to be PowerBait (especially salmon peach, rainbow and garlic), jigs, lures, and nightcrawlers, and the best action has been before 11 a.m. Hot spots included the western and eastern shores of Lake 3 as well as the western and northern shores of Lake 2. Also fair bass action on Senkos with fish to 4 pounds. Catfish are biting on shrimp and nightcrawlers with some to five pounds posted. Also some bluegill being landed.
