Fish Report: High Desert Lakes, May 9 ed.

HESPERIA LAKE: Fair to good catfish action, and a few trout continue to show even though it has been over month since the last plant. Top catfish reported was a six-pounder landed by Will Ashford, Victorville, on the marshmallow-meal worm combo. Doug Cope, Palmdale, landed a five-pound cat, while Aaron Alarcon, Yucca Valley, caught a four-pounder. Top trout was an eight-pounder caught by Benny Tunque, West Covina, on the marshmallow-meal worm combo while fishing for catfish. A 1,000-pound catfish plant was slated for Thursday this week. JESS RANCH LAKES: The trout bite was very good this past week with best action before noon on PowerBait in salmon peach, orange and garlic or nightcrawlers. The bass have been good with the fish in the shallows and showing on plastics and reaction baits. Catfish are also starting to turn on with the best bite on mackerel, shrimp, and nightcrawlers.
