SANTA ANA RIVER LAKES: Good trout action continues with weekly plants on Thursday. There was a blue catfish plant last week and 24-hour fishing Friday and Saturday night. Good catfish bite, too. The lake complex is closed every Thursday (the day of the weekly trout plants) to give the fish a chance to acclimate and spread around the lake. Information: (714) 632-7851 or log on at

IRVINE LAKE: Fair to good trout action this past week. The trout were best along the west shore, Trout Island, and at mid-lake for trollers. PowerBait and nightcrawlers were the best baits. Bass have been very good with most of the fish in less than 10 feet of water and showing on plastics and shad-like jerk baits. Catfish and bluegill are also pretty decent for anglers targeting these species. Information: (714) 649-9111 or go to

LAGUNA NIGUEL LAKE: Warming water temperatures have pushed the trout to deeper water at the dam and the bubble holes. Best bite has been early and late in the day, especially for shore anglers, while float tubers are getting fish on the flats. The last trout plant of the season went in March 25. ANAHEIM LAKE: Closed. The facility will remain closed until Santa Ana River Lakes closes for routine maintenance. Information: (714) 996-3508 or
