SANTA ANA RIVER LAKES: The parade of giant rainbows continues here with the overall bite fair to good. Top fish was a 20-8 rainbow landed by Nestor Martinez, Orange, from the big lake on beef liver. Patrick Sullivan, Tustin, had a 15-3 on a small trout jig, while Tony Olvera, Azusa, landed a 12-8. A 12-pounder was landed by Adrian Hernandez, Whittier. Information: 714-632-7851.
IRVINE LAKE: Lake only open Wednesday through Sunday each week with the last day for fishing tentatively set for Feb. 28. The bass bite has been good with the fish moving shallow for the spawn. Best bite on plastics and small reaction baits. No limit on trout or catfish. All boating, including use of rental boats, has been suspended here as of Sept. 5. Information: 714-649-9111.
LAGUNA NIGUEL LAKE: A 1,500-pound trout plant went in last week. Other plants are slated for the following weeks: Feb. 29 (1,800 pounds), March 14 (1,000 pounds), and March 28 (1,000 pounds).
