IRVINE LAKE: There has been good trout action for both shoreline bait anglers and boat anglers trolling or drifting bait this past week. Top spots have been Sierra Cove, Rocky Point, and along the west shore road. The bait anglers were having the best action on PowerBait in garlic or salmon egg red, with inflated nightcrawlers and pink and white Mice Tails also good bets. Trollers did best with Countdown Rapalas and Shad Raps in a very slow troll. Top trout was a 12-2 rainbow landed by Stan Santos, Corona, on a trolled lure at mid-lake. Cliff Ikeda, Orange, had a 9-7 steelhead, while Richard Huntley, Orange, landed a nine-pounder. The bass bite has been pretty fair with some fish to four pounds reported with most of the bass still in 15 to 20 feet of water. Also a few catfish being caught on cut baits in the old creek channel, but few anglers are targeting the channels and blues. Jose Garcia, Santa Ana, landed a 6-15 cats on a nightcrawler off the west shore. Other species slow. Information: (714) 649-9111.
