Orange County, March 10 report

SANTA ANA RIVER LAKES: Believe it or not? The operators of the concession at SARL are claiming trout over the state record of 28.5 pounds are being stocked in the lake this week and/or the week of March 20. These are the biggest fish planted here in a decade, and more double digit trout have been planted this year than in a decade, too. The big fish caught this past week was a 13-pound rainbow landed by David Halfacre, West Covina, while Stephen Vasquez, Whittier, landed a 12-8. Robby Thomas, Anaheim, landed a 12-pounder. There will be tournaments this Saturday and March 26 with big fish and blind bogey winners. Information: 714-632-7851 or log on at www.fishinglakes.com.

IRVINE LAKE: The lake is now closed and will be for at least the immediate future.

LAGUNA NIGUEL LAKE: A 1,000-pound trout plant is scheduled for this week, with the next plants slated for March 14 (1,000 pounds) and March 28 (1,000 pounds). There are no fishing fees this season, only the $5 parking fee on weekends (or $3 during the week). For more information, 949-923-2240 or go to ocparks.com/parks/lagunan/.
