Orange County, March 17 report

SANTA ANA RIVER LAKES: The first batch of giant rainbows from Mt. Lassen Trout Farms went in last week. That plant and the one scheduled for next week were supposed to have trout over the state record of 28.5 pounds. While nothing that big was landed yet, there was a 21-pound rainbow landed by Bernard Lopez, Wildomar. He also had rainbows at 15.84 and 14.04 pounds, all on PowerBait off La Palma point. Terry Dimond, Anaheim, landed an 18.80-pounder, while Bruce Banks, Pasadena, had an 18-even. Aaron Martinez, Ontario, also had an 18-pounder, while Brian Seleno, Huntington Beach, caught a 17.24-pounder during the Berkley tournament and won $1,300. IRVINE LAKE: The lake is now closed and will be for at least the immediate future. 

LAGUNA NIGUEL LAKE: A 1,000-pound trout plant is scheduled for this week, with the next and final plant of the season set for March 28 (1,000 pounds).
