SANTA ANA RIVER LAKES: Trout season kicks off this week with plants slated for Thursday this week, Nov. 19, and the week before Thanksgiving, when trophy fish over 10 pounds will go in the lake. The catfish bite has continued fair to good. Top fish reported was a 19-pound cat landed by John Cargy, Garden Grove. Ricardo Zepada, Santa Ana, had cats and 12 and eight pounds, while Vince Rangel, Whittier, caught a catfish at 10-12. Information: 714-632-7851.
IRVINE LAKE: The trout bite was good opening weekend along the west shore. Top rainbow was a 6-12 caught by Christian Gonzales, Santa Ana, on nightcrawlers, while Julio Hernandez, Los Angeles, had a five-pounder. The catfish and bass bites also remain fair. Armando Renteria, Pasadena, landed a 23-1 blue cat. All boating, including use of rental boats, has been suspended here as of Sept. 5. Information: 714-649-9111.
LAGUNA NIGUEL LAKE: The concessionaire’s lease expired Oct. 31. The county is now running the fishing program and trout plants are tentatively set to begin Thanksgiving week.
