SANTA ANA RIVER LAKES: Trout season kicks off this week with plants slated for Thursday this week, Nov. 19, and the week before Thanksgiving, when trophy fish over 10 pounds will go in the lake. The catfish bite has continued fair to good. Information: 714-632-7851.
IRVINE LAKE: The trout bite has been slow to fair with only a few fish showing west shore. Best fish reported were a 5-4 rainbow landed by Lance Cleary, Tustin, and a 5-0 caught by Richard Richardson, Long beach. The bass action is better by far with a good bite on one to three pound fish for anglers fishing reaction baits. The catfish and bass bites also remain fair. All boating, including use of rental boats, has been suspended here as of Sept. 5. Information: 714-649-9111.
LAGUNA NIGUEL LAKE: The concessionaire’s lease expired Oct. 31. The county is now running the fishing program and trout plants are tentatively set to begin Thanksgiving week. There are no fishing fees this season, only the $5 parking fee on weekends (or $3 during the week). For more information, 949-923-2240.
