SANTA ANA RIVER LAKES: Weekly plants of catfish on Friday. Trout season opener not set yet. Information: 714-632-7851.

IRVINE LAKE: Fair catfish action, but some quality fish are showing as evenings cool. Chris Hagopian, Redondo Beach, caught and released a 34-8 blue catfish on Bite-On off the west shore. Other notable catches: Luis Montes, Orange, landed and released 31-14 carp fishing boilies off the west shore. Hideto Shibata, Fullerton, had a 6-1 largemouth bass on a brush hog off the west shore. All boating, including use of rental boats, has been suspended here as of Sept. 5. Trout season will kick off on Friday, Nov. 6. Information: 714-649-9111.

LAGUNA NIGUEL LAKE: The concessionaire’s lease expires Oct. 31, so there may not be a trout program this season. Through the end of October the lake is open to fishing, but may not be afterward.
