SANTA ANA RIVER LAKES: No report. The lakes are being planted twice a week with both catfish and tilapia. There is also night fishing every Friday and Saturday night. Information: (714) 632-7851 or log on at     

IRVINE LAKE: The catfish and bass bites both have been good. The cats are showing in good numbers and some impressive catches have been made this past week. A 10,000-pound plant of cats (with fish to 12 pounds) is slated for this week. Top fish was a 34-1 landed by Don Spencer, Garden Grove, on mackerel off the flats. C.J. Smits and Jason Mullen, both Anaheim, had 15 catfish totaling 87-5, including on at 15-8. The trout bite slowed, but a few are still showing for trollers or anglers drifting bait in 15 to 50 feet of water near the dam.
