Fish Report- Orange County Lakes, April 24

SANTA ANA RIVER LAKES: Some big trout continue to show, but overall the bite is just fair. Top fish reported was a 14-8 landed by Steve Zookzwad, Baldwin Park. He also had an 11-8, both on PowerMice off Levitz’ Corner. Steve Missbrenner, Huntington Beach, landed a 12-8 on a pink and white Mice Tail in Chris’ Pond. The catfish are starting to turn with warm weather. Christian Kieler, Buena Park, landed a 9-12 cat on mackerel at the Bubble Hole. Trout are planted each Thursday and blue catfish are now being planted each Wednesday. Night fishing Friday and Saturday evenings nearest the full moon each month. Information: 714-632-7851.

IRVINE LAKE: Excellent trout action with heavy stocks of big fish for the derbies the past couple of weeks. Sierra Cove shore anglers and boat anglers fishing Sierra Cove, mid-lake, and along the west shoreline are all getting good numbers of fish on bait or the troll. Top fish was a 15-2 rainbow landed by Russell Shoa, Orange, on a spinner off the west shore. Jose Valenzuela, Anaheim, landed a 13-9 steelhead on a Mice Tail from Sierra Cove, while Danny Pinnel, San Pedro, caught a 12-2 steelhead on a Kastmaster on the flats to win the Sierra in the City event this past weekend. Bass action has been good on fish to six pounds, mostly on plastics and reaction bait. There is also a fair crappie bite for anglers drifting small jigs in 15 feet of water. The catfish bite is also starting to kick into gear for anglers soaking mackerel on Santiago Flats. Information: 714-649-9111.
