DIAMOND VALLEY: The largemouth bass bite has been very good with a lot of bass shallow for the spawn in the shoreline areas. Plastics, shad-like swimbaits, and nightcrawlers are the best bets. The trout action has been fair to good after both Lassen and DFW plants last week and three weeks ago. The shoreline around the marina, the launch ramp, and at both dams have been the best spots for the rainbows with spinners, small trout spoons, or Mice Tails top baits. Still light fishing pressure on the stripers, but a few fish are showing on swimbaits. The best striper action has been at the two dams from rental boats, but the fish are also showing from the shoreline fishing areas. A few big bluegill and redear are starting to show, most taken on nightcrawlers by bass anglers. No reports on other species. The launch ramp is closed due to low water levels, but rental boats will remain available through the marina. For general lake and launch information, call 800-590-LAKE. PERRIS: Bass up into the shoreline areas for the spawn. The north shore, around the marina and launch ramp, and at the dam are the top areas. Plastic worms and nightcrawlers are the top bets. Mostly small males are showing right now, but a few bigger fish. Greg Barrbia, Perris, had five bass to four pounds fishing a Baby Brush Hawg. The bluegill and redear are also starting to make beds around the islands, marina area, dam, and east end. Top action on meal worms, red worms, and cricket-tipped jigs. Trout slow, but a DFW plant was slated for this week. A few catfish and carp from Sail Cove. No reports of other species. The launch ramp remains open. The reconstruction of the Lake Perris dam is ongoing. During the process, the entire dam and Bernasconi Beach side of the lake, including the Bernasconi Beach parking area, will be closed to public access. (The closure includes the bicycle trail on the east side of the lake.) The recreation area remains open, including access for fishing, boating, camping, and hiking. The west side of the lake will remain open. Private boats must be inspected for zebra and quagga mussels. Boats with wet lower units will be turned away. Boats inspected and tagged at Silverwood or Diamond Valley will also be allowed at Perris. Information: marina 951-657-2179, state park 951-940-5600.
SKINNER: The largemouth bite has been very good with the fish up tight in the shallows on beds. Lots of small males in the bite, but some bigger fish. The best action has been on white jigs, small plastics, or nightcrawlers. Chris Haze, Winchester, had a 8-2 largemouth at the inlet. The striper bite has been fair to good at the inlet and dam area this week with a lot of fish to three pounds showing on cut baits, shad, swimbaits, and topwater. Some fish topping 6 pounds. Colt Ryan, Temecula, landed a 6-8 striper on chicken liver at the inlet. The bluegill bite has been fair to good in eight to 10 feet of water in the Launch Ramp No. 1 area and across from the marina. Red worms, wax worms, nightcrawlers, and small jigs tipped with bait have all been getting fish. A few catfish are finally starting to show, mostly on cut baits off inside the main points and at the dam. Bryan Patterson, Temecula, had a 9-9 cat on mackerel at Ramp No. 2. Trout are slow even after the DFW plant last week. Information: store 951-926-1505, marina 951-926-8515, entrance kiosk 951-926-1541.
ELSINORE: Little change, with good carp action on dough baits with most of the fish in the2-pound range, but some bigger. The catfish are also starting to show in better numbers with fish to six pounds reported on cutbaits this week. Crappie still very slow.
