Arisen Ordaz, Eastvale, landed a two-pound rainbow on rainbow PowerBait at Parking Lot No. 1. No recent DFW trout plants. There have also been quite a few carp showing at the overflow spillway, and even a few catfish are being landed. YUCAIPA: This past weekend’s trout derby drew 251 anglers. This was the final event in the 2017-18 derby series. A total of 56 trout were registered, and the big fish was an 11-4 rainbow landed by Richard O’Farrell, San Bernardino, on orange PowerBait. Twenty-four additional prizes were given out for trout weighing from 9-5 and 1-12. Second place went to Tanner Holt, Fallbrook, with a 9-5 on a plastic jig. Third was an 8-6 landed by Mark Grunkemeyer, Moreno Valley, while fourth place was won by Anthoni Yord, San Bernardino, with an 8-5. Fifth went to David Ortega Gonzalez, Riverside, with an 8-2. The trout bite has been fair since the derby. The county trout plants are 780 pounds per week and split between two of the lakes, but this week more and bigger trout went in for the derby. Anglers are reminded that there is work ongoing at the middle lake, so plants will be at the upper and lower lakes for the next few plants. Last DFW plant was more than one month ago.
