SILVERWOOD: The warm weather is finally perking the bite a little with more catfish and stripers showing this past week, especially off the marina docks. The best bite for both has been on sardines and chicken liver. Marcus Robinson, Pomona, had four catfish to seven pounds fishing chicken liver off the docks. Tony Sung, Apply Valley, landed a three-pound striper on sardines off the dock, while Mark Zuccaberg, Hesperia, landed six stripers to two pounds on sardines at the dam. The trout bite has been slow to fair with the most recent DFW trout plant two weeks ago. Cleghorn and upper Miller Canyon are the top spots and most of the trout are in the pound class. Other species slow, but a few largemouths are starting to show. Anglers should be aware of health warnings for the consumption of fish from this lake because of high PCB and mercury levels in the fish flesh and skin. Dock fishing is allowed for $3 for adults, $2 for kids and seniors. Private boats must be inspected for zebra and quagga mussels. Boats with wet lower units will be turned away. Boats inspected and tagged at Diamond Valley and Perris will be allowed at Silverwood. The park is open seven days a week.
