SILVERWOOD: The trout action has been excellent since the 1,500-pound DFW plant last Friday. The trout bite has been best off the marina rocks and into both Cleghorn and Miller canyons on small jigs, spoons, and PowerBait. Some of the fish are up to four pounds. A Limit of five trout was reported by Jeremy Johnson, Cresline, and his best fish was a four-pounder, all on mini jigs. Jeff Smallwood, Apple Valley, also had five rainbows to three pounds on Kastmasters, while Jennifer Borr, San Bernardino, had a limit of trout to three pounds fishing PowerBait. The last plant was three weeks ago. The stripers slowed from last week, but some fish are showing off the marina docks or deep water in the main body of the lake on the points. Cut baits have been the best baits, but white fly trollers are also scoring fish. Other species are very slow. Anglers should be aware of health warnings for the consumption of fish from this lake because of high PCB and mercury levels in the fish flesh and skin. Dock fishing is allowed for $3 for adults, $2 for kids and seniors. Private boats must be inspected for zebra and quagga mussels. Boats with wet lower units will be turned away. Boats inspected and tagged at Diamond Valley and Perris will be allowed at Silverwood. The park is open seven days a week.
