San Bernadino Mt. Waters, March 30 report

SILVERWOOD: Overall, the bites are improving across the board. Two to three-pound stripers are showing in fair numbers off the marina dock, at the dam, and the mail lake points on sardines and blood worms. A few catfish are also showing in this bite. Mark Abbott, Crestline, had a three-pound striper off the docks on frozen sardines. Chad Abbott, Valencia, landed an eight-pound catfish, also on sardines off the marina docks. The largemouth bass bite is getting better with each warm day as the fish start moving up for the spawn. Jigs and plastics off the main lake points and in most of the coves have been the best bet with most in 12 to 25 feet of water. Tanner Finn, Rancho Cucamonga, had a nine-pound bass on a swimbait. Trout are fair and a DFW plant went in three weeks ago. The best action has been in Cleghorn and Miller canyons. Anglers should be aware of health warnings for the consumption of fish from this lake because of high PCB and mercury levels in the fish flesh and skin. Here’s the direct link to a PDF brochure explaining consumption recommendations: Dock fishing is allowed for $3 for adults, $2 for kids and seniors. Private boats must be inspected for zebra and quagga mussels. Boats with wet lower units will be turned away. Boats inspected and tagged at Diamond Valley and Perris will be allowed at Silverwood.
