San Diego Area Lakes, Feb. 4 report

TOP NEWS: With trout plant season in full swing across San Diego county, the best rainbow action continues to be at lakes getting planted with private hatchery fish. Jennings is the top dog in plants. It was planted with 2,000-pounds of rainbows last week with another 2,500-pounds is slated for this week. Wohlford is getting plants alternating weeks, with one last week and another scheduled for next week. Other lakes getting private plants every two weeks include Dixon, also which had plants last week and will get them again next week. Poway’s 21st Annual Youth Fish Derby is this Saturday and the lake is closed to fishing and boating this week (Feb. 1-5). The lake will receive a 3,000-pound trout plant before the derby.

Top fish this past week: At Poway, an 11-pound rainbow was landed John Thomas, San Diego, fishing at the buoy line with a mini jig.
