BARRETT: There were 155 anglers checked and they reported 1,830 bass. Lake information: 619-465-3474.

HODGES: There were 47 anglers checked and they reported 65 bass, 23 channel catfish, two crappie, and one blue catfish. Information: 760-432-2023.

EL CAPITAN: There were 83 anglers checked and they reported 346 bass, 18 bluegill, and five channel catfish. The lake is open Thursday through Monday with boat rentals available all five days. General lake information: 619-465-3474. Rental boat and concession information: 619-443-4110.

LOWER OTAY: There were 172 anglers checked and they reported 332 bass, 51 bluegill and one channel catfish. Otay is open on a Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday schedule and boat rentals are available all three days. General lake information: 619-465-3474. Rental boat and concession information: 619-397-5212.

UPPER OTAY: No anglers reported. The lake is open on a Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday for catch-and-release fishing (only artificial lures with single, barbless hooks), sunrise to sunset. The road to Upper Otay is closed, but anglers can still walk in. Lake information: 619-465-3474 (recording) or 619-397-5212 (concession).

MURRAY: There were 49 anglers this past week checked who reported 65 bluegill. The marina reports fair bass action with a decent surface and reaction bite early and then a decent live bait and plastic bite. The redear and bluegill bite is fair to good on worms with some limits reported this week. Lake information: 619-466-4847. There are boat rentals Friday through Sunday and the new concession number is 619-466-4847.

MIRAMAR: There were 17 anglers checked this past week and they reported 39 bass and 22 bluegill. Marina concession: 858-527-1722. General information: 619-465-3474. New boat rental and concession information: 858-527-1722.

WOHLFORD: The bass bite has been good on smaller fish to three pounds with the action up early in the day and then in deeper water. Cranks best early and then plastics. Some nice crappie were caught again this past week. Catfish fair to good in most coves. The catfish derby will not be held this year. Trout slow. DOANE POND: DFW trout plant this week and two weeks ago.

DIXON LAKE: Catfish are fair to good on shrimp in Whisker Bay. Bass are fair with plastics, nightcrawlers, and trout swimbaits the best bet. Top bass was a 9.2-pounder landed by Hudson Sherr, San Marcos, on a swimbait, while Victor Betancourt, Escondido, landed an 8.75-pounder. Information: 760-839-4680.

POWAY: The bass action has been good with a lot of two-pound class fish on plastics and swimbaits, especially along the eastern shore and the fishing pier. Catfish are pretty fair on cut baits at the log boom and fishing pier Very slow trout action in the deeper parts of the lake for boat anglers. JENNINGS: The catfish bite has been good after plants this week and two weeks ago. A few fish topping six pounds reported, but most 2 to 4 pounds. The best bite has been in deeper water on mackerel, chicken liver, or dough baits. Bass are fair to good but most of the fish are small, under 3 pounds, and showing on reaction baits or plastics. Some panfish. Trout very slow. Information: 619-390-1300.

MORENA: The bass action has been fair to good with some quality fish reported. The best bite has been on swim baits for bigger fish, but plastics, nightcrawlers, smaller reaction baits, and jigs have all be getting fish. Some catfish showing on cut baits and this bite is improving with the warmer weather, but the bluegill, crappie, and carp bites are all still off.
