San Diego Area Lakes, Aug. 24 Report

NEWS/STOCKING UPDATES: Lake Jennings received a 1,000-pound plant of catfish last week and will get another plant next week. Dixon and Wohlford also received their last catfish plants of the season three weeks ago. Poway got a 1,300-pound plant last week.

FISHING UPDATE: The bluegill and redear action at Otay, Murray, and Hodges remains fair to good. Most are hand-sized, weighing less than a half-pound, but some bigger. Also still fair action on bluegill at Barrett, San Vicente, El Capitan, and Jennings. The bass action remains fair to good at most waters in the region, while fog this past week prolonging the bite at lakes nearer the ocean. Morena, El Capitan, San Vicente, and Hodges also remain fair to good on bass, with topwater action most mornings and evenings, but still mostly on plastics and reaction baits. Trout season is pretty much over except at Cuyamaca, which has been OK in deeper water on floating baits and inflated nightcrawlers. Catfish season is in full swing at most waters with some good catches being reported at all the lakes for anglers targeting the cats.
