FISHING UPDATE: Trout season is in high gear, and there is good fishing at many waters. Dixon Lake has been particularly good with over 14,000 pounds of trout planted so far this season, and Lake Cuyamaca is very good. Lots of limits posted at both waters. Wohlford joined the fray with its first plants of the season last week and more plants this week, and the bite is very good here. Jennings and Santee Lakes have been fair with plants this week. Poway has also been pretty fair after a plant two weeks ago and another plant this week.
The bass action is finally starting to ebb a little as the nights and water temperatures cool. Lower Otay has been the bass hotspot in the region with a lot of fish on drop-shot plastics and still some reaction bait fish. El Capitan, San Vicente, and Murray have also been pretty fair bass. Lots of small fish at all the lakes right now.
The bluegill and redear action has slowed way down, with just a few fish caught at Murray, Otay, and San Vicente.
The catfish are getting very light pressure right now so there have been few reports.
FISH COUNTS: The San Diego City Lakes staff usually conducts counts each week at its reservoirs. At Miramar, 26 anglers checked reported 77 bass to 4.55 pounds, six bluegill to a pound, and three channel cats to 6.4 pounds. At San Vicente, 29 anglers reported 57 bass and one 70-pound blue catfish. No reports for El Capitan, Murray, or Lower Otay.
NOTABLE CATCHES: At San Vicente, there was a report of a 70-pound blue catfish, but no details were available. At Lake Murray, there was a two-pound redear landed by Theresa Holdman, Floria, on a nightcrawler at Cowles Point, while San Cline, San Diego, had four bluegill to a pound off the Fishing Pier on red worms.
